Seafloor spreading is when the natural process of fresh areas of oceanic crust occur. Through the upwelling of magma at the mid ocean ridges and it’s subsequence outward movement on either side.

Harry H. Hess discover the seafloor spreading, by using sonar. He was able to map out the ocean floor.

An American scientist name Harry H. Hess who discovered the midAtlantic ridge. Figured out that the mid Atlantic ridge was warmer than the surface above it.

This caused him to think that the high temperature was created through the magma that spilled out from the ridge. The continental drift theory by Alfred Wegener in 1912 was supported by this hypothesis on the transfer position of the earth surface.
