Science flahscards week 2 Flashcards
What function do gills have?
Allows fish to breath underwater and dissolves oxygen from water and to excrete carbon dioxide.
What are the major groups of fishes?
Jawless fish, cartilaginous fish and Bony Fish.
What is a no to chord?
flexible Rod-vertebrates column.
what is a Nerve cord?
string nerve signal-spinal cord.
What is a Pharangeal?
gill suits-gills(fish)
What is a Vertebrates B?
1) backbone (vertibral column + spinal cord
What is a Vertebrates E?
2) Endoskeleton-inside Skeleton
What is the difference between a endoskeleton and exoskeleton?
Exoskeleton is inside an organism body and an exoskeleton in on the outer part of the animal.
What is Gradual Metamorphosis?
When an animal only grows in size and their appearance stays the same.
What is complete metamorphosis?
When the animal goes through all stages of their life for example a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.
What are bony fish?
vertebrate animals that have skeletons primarily composed of bone tissue.
What is a jawless fish?
A Vertebrata animal that lacks a jaw and has a Cartilage skeleton.
What are is a Cartilaginous fishes?
Chondrichthyes is a class of jawed fish that contains the cartilaginous fish or chondrichthyians, which all have skeletons primarily composed of cartilage.
Do toads/frogs have a tail?
No,Toads and frogs have no tail because they lose there tail as they grow up.
Do Salamanders/Newts have a tail?
Yes,Salamanders/Newts have a tail.
How do amphibians breath?
All amphibians have moist skin,There moist skin is how they breath.
What do young amphibians have?
Young amphibians-Water,Gills,Life style,2 chamber heart and complete metamorphosis.
What do Adult Amphibians have?
Adult Amphibians-Lungs,land,lifestyle,3 chambered heart and complete metamorphosis.
How many heart chambers do reptile have?
3 chamber heart(except alligators, they have 4 chamber heart.)
Are reptiles cold blooded?
Most reptiles are cold blood.
What fertilization do reptiles have?
internal fertilization.
What are the four classifications of reptiles?
(1.crocodiles and alligators)(2.tuataras/ Sphenodontia)
(3.lizards and snakes)
(4.Turles/Testudines)
How many legs do Lizards have?
4 legs with clawed toes.
How many lungs do lizards have?
2 lungs.
Are lizards carnivores?
most of them yes.
Do snake have legs?
No
Do snakes have eyelids or ears?
No,snakes do nor have either ears or eyelids.
How do snakes hear?
slightly different from ours in that it connects to the jawbone, enabling them to sense vibrations.but they can only hear a portion of the sounds we hear.
How many lungs do snake have?
Snakes have 1 lung.
Are snakes and lizards environment cold or warm?
There environment is warm.
Are snakes carnivores?
yes.
Do turtles have a backbone?
Turles do have a backbone and ribs.Made of fused scales.
Do turtles have a shell?
Yes tutrles do have shells.
Can turtle reproduce there shells?
yes, but with proper medication and care, but it can take months or years.
Are birds warm blooded or cold blooded?
Birds are warm blooded.
Are mammals warm blooded.
Yes
How many heart chambers do birds have?
Birds have a 4 chamber heart?
Are birds bone strong?
Bird bones are hollow but they have a very hard shell so there bones don’t break easily.
Are birds egg shells soft or a hard shell?
Birds eggs are hard shell.
How do birds take care for the young?
they feed & protect until the young is able to fly.
Are birds internal fertilization or external fertilization?
Birds are internal fertilization.
Why do birds have hallow bones?
The hollow bones help birds fly.
Do birds need air sacs?
Yes the air sacs are connected to the lungs so it gives the bird enough oxygen to fly.
How do birds obtain food?
The use there beak to tear into there food.
Are mammals cold blooded or warm blooded?
Mammals are warm blooded(Endotherms)
How many heart chambers do mammals have?
Mammals have 4 chambered heart.
How do mammals stay warm?
Mammals have fur and hair that keep them warm.
whats another way mammals stay warm?
Mammals have fat that keep them warm.
How do mammals care for there young?
they care for there young with behavior.
Do mammals have lung diaphragm?
Yes,Mammals have a lung diaphragm.
Do mammals have a brain?
Yes,Mammals have a complex brain(for problem solving/highly developed senses/l(large eyes, sonar,
smell sensitivity)
How do mammals eat?
Incisors-cut
Canines-tear/slash
Molars-Grind
How much do mammals eat?
Mammals eat higher in calories. For example meat or fish.
what are the three types of mammal groups?
Monotreme’s , Marsupials and Placental mammals.
Why are the mammals groups important?
They can lay eggs, eat ants and they can make milk.
What are Endotherms?
Endotherms use internally generated heat to maintain body temperature.
What are ectotherms?
Ectotherms depend mainly on external heat sources, and their body temperature changes with the temperature of the environment.
What are placential mammals?
therian mammals in which a placenta develops during pregnancy.
What are Monotreme Mammals?
They are the only group of living mammals that lay eggs, rather than bearing live young.
What are Marsupial Mammals?
A marsupial is a mammal that raises its newborn offspring inside an external pouch at the front or underside of their bodies.
How do mammals produce milk?
The breast produces milk/mammany gland.
