Science Exam Revision Flashcards
What is cohesion?
When water is attracted to water.
What is surface tension?
A ‘skin that forms around the surface of water.
What is adhesion?
What’re is attracted to other substances- things that cannot dissolve.
What is chromatography?
The separation of colours.
What is a force?
A push or pull of an object which can make it move or change shape.
What is a contact force?
When an object is in contact with another object.
What is a non-contact force?
A force at occurs without touching.
What are forces measured in?
Newtons.
What is a balanced force?
If two equal objects are applied to an object in opposite directions it will not move.
What is an unbalanced force?
If the force acting upon an object are unbalanced the object will start to move.
What is air resistance?
A contact force which makes it slow down through the air.
What is friction?
The force applied to the surface of an object when it moves against the surface of another object.
What is the centre of an atom?
The Nucleus.
What is a positive charge?
A proton.
What is a negative charge?
A neutron.
What is streamlining?
When you change the shape of an object to make it go faster.
What is unhelpful friction?
When there is a lot of friction between moving parts, energy is lost as heat.
What is buoyancy?
Is the upward push (force) on an object that is floating or submerged in a fluid. It acts in all liquids and gases.
What is Biology the study of?
Living things.
What is physics the study of?
How and why things happen.
What is chemistry the study of?
The study of substances.
What is geology?
Earth and how it changes.
What is psychology the study of?
Mind and the behaviour.
What is Astronomy the study of?
The heavens, the sun, planets, moon, stars, etc.
What is gravity?
The force of attraction between any objects.
‘Pull’
What is weight?
The measure of the pull of gravity on your body.
What is Mass?
The total amount of material that makes up an object.
Measured in kg or gms.
All matter has mass.
What is terminal velocity?
When air resistance = weight force.
