Science equipment Flashcards
Pyrex
Clear low thermal expansion borosilicate glass used for laboratory glassware that can withstand temps up to 500 Celsius
Conical Flask
A narrow neck and wide base. Suitable for stoppers and can swirl without spillage
Tripod
A tripod is used to elevate glassware above a bunsen burner (paired with Gauze mat)
Gauze mat
Used to distribute heat evenly to glassware and can also provide stability (paired with tripod)
Watch Glass
A watch glass is normally used to hold a small amount of solid while it is being weighed
Measuring cylinder
Used to measure the volume of a liquid
Evaporating dish
Equipment used for evaporating liquids and produce concentrated solutions or solid precipitates
Beaker
Most commonly used glassware in science, holds liquids, suitable for mixing and boiling in, has a small spout for pouring, can measure volume too
Bunsen Burner
Small adjustable gas burner used in laboratories as a source of heat
Test Tube
Mainly used in Chemistry to handle chemicals, good for heating small amounts of liquids or solids
Retort stand, bosshead and clamp
Large supporting equipment that can hold other equipment and glassware
