SCIENCE (ENERGY) Flashcards
Factors that affect kinetic energy using examples.
Mass- A truck and bicycle moving at same speed, truck will have more kinetic energy as it as more mass.
Speed- Car moving at 60km/h has more kinetic energy than 30km/h
Factors that affect potential energy using examples.
Height- Rock on a hill has more gravitational potential energy than at the bottom
Mass- A heavier book on a shelf has more potential than a lighter one
How to calculate energy efficiency from examples.
Energy Efficiency (%) = (Useful Energy Output / Total Energy Input) × 100
If the chemical energy in petrol is 100J, and the kinetic energy for car is 25J
Energy efficiency = 25%
Describe and identify energy transformations.
Energy transformation is when energy changes from one form to another. Like hydroelectric dams that transform the kinetic energy of water into electrical energy.
Describe and identify energy transfers.
Energy transfer is the movement of energy from one location to another. For example, when electricity moves from a wall plug through a charger, to a battery.
