Science- Climate Flashcards
What is the difference between climate change and weather
Weather is the daily temperature. It includes temperature, air pressure, cloud cover, and precipitation.
Climate is the temperature over a long period of time. It includes monthly temperature and precipitation, average wind spread and direction.
What is the layers of atmosphere
- Troposphere
- Stratosphere
- Mesosphere
- Thermosphere
- Exosphere
The spheres of earth
The atmosphere, the lithosphere, and the hydrosphere
What are the biomes
Arctic tundra- little precipitation
Boreal- harsh climate, has many conifers
Deciduous forest- has many deciduous
Grassland- fertile soil
Coniferous- damp summers, wet winters
Mountain- temperature depends on altitude
What is a biome
A biome is a large geographical area that is defined based on climate
Thermal energy transfer
The movement of heat from an area of high temperature to an area with low temperature.
Thermal energy in the atmosphere
It is transferred in the atmosphere due to rising and sinking of warm and cold gasses
Natural green house gasses
Methane
Water vapour
Carbon dioxide
Nitrous oxide
Solar radiation
Albedo is the percent of the solar radiation reflected by snow ice
