Asthma
A disease in which the air passage of the lungs periodically become too narrow, often with excessive mucus production.
Emphysema
A lung disease in which walls of the alveoli break down so less gas can be exchanged in the lungs.
Larynx
Protect the lower respiratory tract from aspirating food into the trachea while breathing
Lung
Are the organs in which gas exchange takes place between blood and air
Pharynx
A long tube that is shared with the digestive system. Acts as a passageway for air to enter the larynx and lungs and food and liquid to enter the esophagus
Trachea
Wind pipe. This is a long tube that leads down to the chest.
Pneumonia
A disease in which some of the alveoli of the lungs fill with fluid so gas exchange cannot occur
Respiration
The process in which your body exchanges gas between the body and the outside air.
Ventilation
The process of moving air in and out of the lungs.
