Science: Autumn Term Flashcards
What are lab rules?
Rules to keep everyone safe in a science classroom
Why are symbols used?
Because they can warn us faster than words
Name the contact forces
Friction, drag, upthrust, air resistance, reaction
Name the non contact forces
Gravity, Magnetism, Electrostatic
What is the change of matter from a solid to liquid?
Melting
What is the change of matter from a Solid to gas?
Sublimation
What is the change of matter from a liquid to solid?
Freezing
What is the change of matter from a Liquid to gas?
Boiling
What is the change of matter from a gas to solid?
Deposition
What is the change of matter from a gas to liquid?
Condensation
How do you calculate speed?
Distance/time
How do you calculate weight?
Mass X Gravitational Field strength
What does stationary mean?
Not moving
What does unbalanced forces do to a stationary object?
It begins to move on the side of the stronger force
What makes us stay on the Earth?
Gravity
Why do astronauts on the ISS appear like they are floating?
Because the station is constantly in free fall
Why do we weigh differently on different planets?
Because each planet has a different gravitational field strength
What is a pure substance?
A object made up of only the same element or compound?
Is orange juice ‘pure’?
No it might say on the label but it has different compounds added to it
Name a pure substance
Gold ,water, oxygen, etc
What is a water molucle made up of?
One hydrogen Two oxygen
Why are some mixtures hard to seperate?
Because like in water some elements are chemicaly joined together
What flame should we put on a bunsen burner when currently not in use?
Safety Flame
What parts of the bunsen burner can’t we touch?
The chimney and flame
If you have long hair what should you do to it if you are using a bunsen burner?
Tie it back
