Science and Engineering Practices Flashcards
scientifc method
The way scientsit study and learn about the world
Observations
using your five senses to gather informations about somehting.
Qualitative Observation
using your senes to describe the characteristics of an object-color, texture, taste.
Quantitative Observation
Using numbers or measurements to describe something.
Inference
An example of an observation based on prior knowledge.
Hypothesis
A prediction based on prioe knowledge. Always written in an if then statment.
Varable
Any factor that can be manipualted, controlled for or mesasured in an experment.
Control Varible
What must stay the in the experiment.`
Manipulated/ Independent Varible
The things that are testing or changing in an experiment and it is graphed on the X-axis
Dependent/ Responding Variable
What you are mesuring or observing in an experiment and it is graphed on the Y-axis
C-E-R
c= claim
e=evidence
r=resoning
claim
is the answer to the question you are trying to answer.
Evidence
scintific data that supports your claim.
Reasoning
The how or why the evidence supports our claim scientific rule
Conclusion
A written summary of an experiment that uses evidence to prove what you learned.
