Science 6-1/6-2 Flashcards
Cells
The smallest part of the human body that performs all the necessary life functions.
Tissues
Groups of cells with similar structure and function.
Organs
Groups of tissues organized to perform a particular task.
Organ Systems
Groups of organs that work together to perform a necessary life function
Muscle Tissue/System
Moves the body and substances within the body.
Nerve Tissue
Pass out messages throughout the body.
Epithelial Tissue
Covers the surfaces of your body. (Skin)
Connective Tissue
Connects or holds parts of the body together.
Integumentary (skin) System
Protects the body and receives stimuli from the environment.
Skeletal System
Supports and protects the body. Also, allows movement, and makes blood cells.
Digestive System
Breaks down food into simple nutrients that body cells can use for energy.
Circulatory System
Delivers nutrients and oxygen; carries any waste away from the cells.
Lymphatic System
Helps protect the body from disease-causing organisms.
Respiratory System
Moves oxygen through the blood and carbon dioxide out of the body.
Excretory System
Removes cellular waste products from the body.
Nervous System
Receives and transmits messages throughout the body through electrochemical signals.
Endocrine System
Controls and coordinates many body functions to keep the body working properly.
Reproductive System
Reproductive organs produce male and female sex cells.
Electrochemical Signals
Quick messages transferred by the nervous system.
Negative Feedback
A response by the body to oppose a stimulus to bring it in balance.
Lock and Key
The body uses hormones to transmit messages and make different reactions occur.
