Science Flashcards
What is Gravity?
A non-contact force that gives an object’s weight
What is Force?
a push, pull or twist in a particular way.
What’s Mass?
how much matter is inside of you.
What’s unbalanced forces?
Can change an object motion.
What’s a balanced force?
Don’t cause a change in an object’s motion.
What is air resistance?
is the opposing force to gravity.
What is friction?
is a contact force.
What is weight?
measure of the pull of gravity on your mass
What is Newton’s 1st law of motion?
an object at rest will remain at rest unless acted upon by an external unbalanced.
Sinking?
objects that sink push on a liquid.
Floating?
If the buoyancy exceeds the weight, then the object floats.
Neutral buoyancy?
If the buoyancy equals the weight, the object has neutral buoyancy.
What is Density?
is how much mass a substance has in a given space.
What is a lever?
is a simple machine that uses the turning effect of a force to make a task easier.
What is a Fulcrum?
The turning point of a lever.
What is a Load?
The resistance to motion that a lever works against
What is an effort?
The force required to cause movement.
1st order lever?
EFL- Has the fulcrum in the middle
2nd order lever?
ELF- Has the load in the middle
3rd order lever?
FEL- Has the effort in the middle
Buoyancy?
An example for 1st class levers
Hammer removing nail, opening a tin with a spoon and scissors cutting paper.
An example for 2nd class levers
Wheelbarrow, stapler and nutcracker.
An example for 3rd class levers
Sweeping the floor, tweezers, tongs and staplers.
