What is first aid?
First aid is the steps taken to help someone in the first minutes after an illness or injury
What can first aid help with?
First aid can help someone feel better, recover more quickly, and can even save lives.
What does the word “Emergency” mean
a serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action.
What would you consider to be an emergency?
Bleeding, choking, fainting, head injury, snake bite, car accident etc.
What is an emergency response?
an immediate response to an unexpected occurrence.
What is the aim of an emergency response?
Aim is to mitigate the event on people, property, and their environment.
What services are there in Aus?
Ambulance, police, firefighter, lifeguards etc.
What number should you call for an emergency?
000 (Triple zero)
What is an example for a hazard?
Rips in water, sea animals e.g. blue bottles, wind conditions, climate conditions, drowning etc.
What does the acronym DRSABCD represent?
Danger, Response, Send for help, Airways, Breathing, CPR and Defibrillation
What does COWS stand for?
Can you hear me? Open your eyes. What is your name? Squeeze my hand.
What are the 5 S’s of Sun Safety?
Slip: Shirt, Slop: Sunscreen, Slap: Hat, Seek: Shade, Slide: Sunnies.

What is the recovery position?
The recovery position is when they lay on the left side when they are conscious so they could breathe.
What is RICER?
RICER is the management technique used to treat soft tissue injuries.
What does RICER stand for?
Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate, Referral
How to treat burns?
Follow Doctor’s ABCD (DRSABCD), if the burn is severe call 000 for ambulance, hold the burnt area under cool running water for 20 minutes, remove any clothing and jewelry from the burnt area, cover the burn with a light loose unstick dressing, preferably clean, dry, non-fluffy material (e.g. Plastic cling film), continue to check the patient for shock, and treat if necessary.
How to treat bee stings, wasp bites, ant bites, centipede stings?
remove the sting by sliding it out, wash the area, apply cold pack to reduce swelling, watch for signs of anaphylaxis and treat according.
How to treat tick bites?
Remove the tick, apply a cold pack to reduce swelling, watch for signs of further concern like a fever, dizziness, vomiting and seek medical help if this occurs.
How to treat a snake bite and funnel web spider?
Follow DRSABCD, call 000 for an ambulance, lie the person down and ask them to stay still and reassure them, remove jewellery from limbs, if the bite is on a limb apply a pressure immobilisation bandage beginning at the base of the limb and working upwards, immobilise the bandaged area using a splint, if you have a pen, mark where the bite was on the bandage, write down what time of the bite, any details of the snake’s appearance which is helpful for the hospital.

Pressure immobilisation Bandage.
What’s a risk?
is the possibility of something bad or unpleasant happening.
Examples of risky behaviors for teens
Drugs, scooters, ocean/outdoors, vaping, sun/tanning, crime, driving, drinking, sneaking out, violence, dating, pregnancy, dating etc.
What is a consequence?
is the result or effect of an action or decision which can be positive or negative.
