science Flashcards
in biology, the smallest unit that can perform all life processes
cell
in a eukaryotic cell, a membrane-bound organelle that contians the cell’s DNA and that has a role in the process such as growth metabolism, and reproduction
nucleus
a phospholipid layer that covers a cell environment
cell membrane
a fliud and almost all of a cell
cytoplasm
one of the small bodies in a cells cytoplasm that are specialized to perform a specific function
organelle
a rigid structure that surrounds the cell membrane and provides support to the cell
cell wall
in eukaryotic cells, the cell organelle that is surrounded by two membrane and that is the site of cellular respiration
mitochondrion
cell orginals that helps make and pakages materials to be transported out of the cell
golgi complex
a system of membranes thta is found in a cells cytoplasm and that assists in the production, proccesing, and transport of protiens and in the production of lipids
endoplasmic reticulum
cell oganelle compose of RNA and protien; the site of the protien synthesis
ribosome
a cell organelle that contians digative enzymes
lysosome
an ogranism that consist of a single call that does not have a nucleus
prokaryote
an organism made up of a cell that have a nucleus enclosed by a membrane; eukaryote include animals, plants, and fungi, but not archaebacteria or eubacteria.
eukaryote
a group of similar cells that perform a common function
tissue
a collection of tissues that carry out a specilized function of the body
