Schizophrenia Dx
Active phase symptoms for at least 1 month with at least one symptom being delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech plus continuous signs of the disorder (e.g., odd behaviors and abolition) for at least six months that May include prodromal and/or residual phases.
Onset
Early teens to early 30s.
Male: early to mid 20s.
Female: late 20s.

Child of two parents with sch 46%
Monozygotic twin 48%
Schizophrenia better prognosis
-Female gender

Hypofrontality
Positive sxs:dopamine hyperactivity in subcortical regions (striata’s areas).
Negative sxs: dopamine hypoactivity in cortical regions(prefrontal cortex).
Schizophreniform Disorder DX
Two of five characteristic SX for at least one month but less than six months.
With at least one symptom being delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech.

Negative symptoms ( avolition, alogia, anhedonia).
Delusion
False belief based on incorrect inference about external reality that is firmly held despite obvious proof of the contrary.
Illusion
Actual external stimulus is misperceived or misinterpreted.

Schizoaffective
Concurrent sxs of schizophrenia and a major depressive or manic episode for most of the duration of the illness, but with the presence of delusions or hallucinations for two or more weeks without mood symptoms.
Delusional Disorder
One or more delusions for at least one month and the overall functioning has not been markedly impaired.
Brief Psychotic Disorder
One or more of four characteristics symptoms for at least one day but less than one month. One symptom being delusions, hallucinations, or disorganized speech.
