What is pyschosis?
Out of touch with reality, experiencing a reality that is not true.
Symptoms of pyschosis?
- Hallucinations
- Delusions
- Formal thought disorder
- Passivity phenomena
- Patient lacks insight
What is meant by lacking insight?
Dont think anything is wrong with them, do not realise what they are experiencing is not real.
E.g. Would not go to the doctor saying ‘Im experiencing hallucinations’. Pyschotic people dont think they are pyschotic.
How does normal processing of the mind work?
Sense data- an object- a meaningful object
What is a perception?
What is a thought?
What are hallucinations?
Perceiving things that arent there/ in the absence of an external stimulus.
What are delusions?
A false belief that is firmly held and cannot be reasoned away, and is held despite evidence to the contray, that is out of keeping with a persons sociocultural norms.
