Q

How hormones change during pregancy

A

High hCG levels produced by placental tissue early in pregnancy maintain estrogen and
progesterone secretion by the corpus luteum.
• hCG prevents menstruation and promotes maintenance of the uterine lining.
• At around 4 months placenta takes over secreting estrogen and progesterone, hCG levels
drop, and the corpus luteum subsequently ceases secreting these hormones
