How to advertise medicine that is a schedule 4 poison?
A medicine that is a Schedule 4 poison must not be advertised unless the advertisement is in a publication that is normally sold or intended for sale or circulation only to health professionals or persons licensed to manufacture or supply medicines
Who can schedule 4 substances be sold or supplied to?
- With a valid prescription
- Without a valid prescription if a pharmacist is satisfied the person is under medical treatment with a Schedule 4 and not having the medication would be detrimental to their heath. In this case the pharmacist can provide 3 days supply of the medication (known as Emergency Supply)
- Where a prescriber has contacted the pharmacist (via phone, email or fax etc.) and provided directions to supply a Schedule 4 medication to a patient and despatched the prescription to the pharmacy within 24 hours. If the prescription does not arrive within 5 working days the Health Department is to be contacted (known as Directions by Prescriber to Supply)
