What are the duties of a scene guard?

A
  1. Prevent unauthorised entry to the scene
  2. To keep a scene guard log of every person entering and leaving - including their names, purpose of visit, notify the scene co-ordinator of their arrival
  3. Ensure they direct everyone what route to take into the scene
  4. Record movements, vehicle details at/ near the scene
  5. Communicate info received with the O/C scene or scene coordinator
  6. Be vigilant of animals
  7. Wait until the next scene guard arrives and then thoroughly brief the next scene guard - give log
  8. Don’t discuss with media, witnesses, bystanders
  9. Don’t personally enter and contaminate the scene.

A

Limitations placed on the situation by the commander. Eg time constraints.

What is the purpose of a reconnaissance?

A

To gain a brief overview of a scene without disturbing any evidence.

This will include establishing what specialist groups might be required and any urgent matters that need to be addressed.

When would you use a full formal appreciation? And when would you use a shortened note appreciation?

A

Full - high level or difficult tactical or administrative problems

Short - not complicate or complex, or urgent problems requiring immediate action.

What are the four parts to the appreciation technique?

A

Aim - what trying to achieve

Factors - an influence or circumstance contributing to a result. Think ‘so what’ and ‘therefor’ until nothing more can be drawn out

Courses open - what options are there bearing in mind the factors. Discuss advantages and disadvantages and identify the best option available.

Plan - logical result of the appreciation. Then use GSME.
