What background information does the Prince give about the feuding families?
The prince said thrice the families had disturbed the peace in the streets. ANd the town was fed up with all the fighting.
What is the penalty for further fighting? Why do you think he chooses such a harsh penalty?
The prince says if further fighting occurs between the two families they will be put to death. Because the families have no reason to fight and it has been going on forever.
What do we learn about Romeo’s behaviour from the conversation between Benvolio and Romeo’s parents? What does Benvolio vow to do?
We learnt that he’s depressed and keeps isolating himself in his room, he just sulks all day long. Bevolio vows to find out why his cousin is upset.
Why is Romeo upset?
Romeo is upset because he is madly in love with a girl and she didn’t return the love and is becoming a nun.
When describing his feelings to Benvolio, Romeo uses oxymorons in lines 170-177 and 184-188. Why do you think he speaks this way?
Because his mind is scrambled by love and is having mixed emotions.
What is Benvolio’s advice to Romeo?
To get over Rosaline and find a new love interest.
