Scenario-Based Questions Flashcards
If you were given a new project with little guidance, how would you approach it?
SITUATION: Early in my role as a content designer at York St John, I was tasked with leading the creation of a new section on the website for the Postgraduate Research (PGR) school. As I was new to the role and had missed the initial meetings about the PGR school, I lacked detailed guidance. Additionally, my team was unclear about the overall goals for the project.
TASK: This left me in the position of figuring out the purpose of the new web section with minimal direction. I needed to gather my own information and clarify the goals of the project in order to move forward effectively.
ACTION: My first step was to research and understand the existing postgraduate offerings at York St John, so I could determine what content was relevant for the new section. Next, I reached out to the head of the PGR school to schedule a meeting. This allowed me to directly discuss the goals and content requirements for the section. During our conversation, I discovered that the school was still in the early stages of planning, and many of my questions were things they were still working on. Despite this, I made sure to share what I had learned with both the web and marketing teams to ensure we were all aligned and aware of any potential changes. I kept my manager updated on the progress to ensure transparency and to seek support if needed.
RESULT: By the end of the project, which coincided with the end of my fixed-term contract, everything went live as planned. The content was well received, and the new section contributed positively to the overall website offering.
