Q

What would you do in your first few months in this role to make an impact?

A

To make an impact in the first few months, I would start by taking the time to understand the unique needs and priorities of the role and the students I’d be supporting. Here’s how I would approach this:

1) Learn about the student demographic and key stakeholders:

  • Even though I have experience creating campaigns for students at YSJ, I would take the time to get to know the specific needs, challenges, and interests of the students in this new role. This would include meeting with key stakeholders to understand their priorities and expectations.

2) Review existing communications and student engagement strategies:

  • I would audit the current communication channels, platforms, and strategies to see what has been successful and where there may be room for improvement. This will give me a solid foundation to build on and make data-driven recommendations for enhancing future efforts.

3) Build strong relationships and establish trust:

  • From the outset, I would work to develop relationships with colleagues and external partners, ensuring that I collaborate closely with them to understand their goals and how we can work together to support students effectively. Building this trust will help foster smoother collaboration and greater impact over time.

4) Identify quick wins:

  • By leveraging my prior experience, I would look for opportunities to create quick wins, such as refining a student-facing campaign or optimizing a communication channel for better engagement. These early successes would help establish my credibility and demonstrate the value I bring to the team.

5) Focus on inclusivity and accessibility:

  • In the first few months, I would also ensure that all communication strategies are inclusive, accessible, and tailored to meet the needs of diverse student groups. This is a priority for me, as making sure students feel represented and supported is essential for long-term engagement.

6) Establish feedback mechanisms:

  • To ensure continuous improvement, I would implement feedback loops to gauge the effectiveness of our efforts. Listening to students and other stakeholders will help refine future initiatives and make sure we’re staying on track to meet their needs.

By focusing on these areas, I believe I can make a meaningful impact from the very beginning and contribute to creating a positive and supportive environment for students.
