You are a level 2 CC1. You receive an inmate with Level 3 points (37) but has a behavioral override at Level 2. During his review, his points drop down to 31pts. What do you do?
- Inform my supervisor (CCII) of the case factors.
- Review inmate’s SOMS & ERMS file
- Review inmate’s Scoresheet(s) (including initial scoresheet) and check for calculation errors
- Review inmate’s disciplinary history.
- Work up case and give information to my supervisor for review
- Meet with inmate 72 hours prior to scheduled hearing and have inmate sign the Notification of Classification Hearing and Notification of Death, Injury, or Serious Illness.
- Make sure to establish effective communication if TABE is 4.0 or below.
- Staff assistant if criteria is met
- If inmate is EOP, clinician or representative from Mental Health is required.
- Inform inmate of what the committee recommends.
- Commend inmate for positive behavior
12Conduct review and refer to CSR for BEH removal, retaining at level 2 because inmate is now properly housed.
An inmate approaches you with safety concerns and your supervisor is gone. What do you do?
- Contact Unit Sergeant and notify of situation.
- Keep inmate in your direct custody until inmate is escorted to holding cell.
- If possible, place in hand restraints.
- Keep away from other inmates
- If possible, keep inmate in your office and question inmate about what is going on while gathering as much information as possible. Ie: monikers, cell locations, what was the cause of the safety concern.
- Reference SOMS/ERMS and check Confidential Memorandums, Non-Confidential and Confidential Enemies. Look at prior CDCR #’s and Archive Files.
- Reference current and former convictions. Some inmates are at higher risk due to conviction history. Ie: Rape, Murder, Child Molestation.
- Recommend placement into AD-Seg for Safety Concerns.
- Speak to Sergeant and recommend an investigation and confidential memorandum.
- Give information of current findings to assigned investigative employee.
- Submit memorandum to your supervisor, building Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Facility Captain informing of situation and findings.
An inmate approaches you and states he has a death in the family and needs to make a phone call. What do you do?
- Gather as much information from the inmate as possible.
- Keep inmate in your custody, until escorted to his cell by staff.
- If housed at MSF or CAMP, inmate can be re-housed pending review of case factors.
- Reference SOMS and ERMS to establish family connection
- Contact via phone person that was provided by inmate and gather information about deceased person.
- Contact Coroner’s Office to confirm death of inmate’s family member and location of the deceased.
- Contact building Sergeant and notify of situation
- Contact chaplain and notify of situation, providing inmates information
- Request Sergeant allow inmate to utilize payphone to make an emergency phone call when appropriate
- Refer inmate to Mental Health for follow-up with therapist.
- Review for TCL if appropriate, based on inmate’s case factors, and notify supervisor.
- Create a Death Notification 128B and scan into ERMS.
An inmate comes to your office and tells you he has an enemy on the yard. What do you do?
- Keep inmate in office, gather as much information as possible.
Contact building sergeant and request inmate placed in holding cell due to security
concerns. - Notify direct supervisor
- Reference SOMS/ERMS to identify Confidential or Non-Confidential Enemy.
- Recommend inmate be placed in AD-Seg due to Safety Concerns pending an investigation.
- Confidential memorandum. Once complete, submit to CC3, Captain or higher for file placement.
- If unable to identify enemy, advise supervisor, sergeant, and ad-seg CCI & CC2.
- If enemy is confirmed, recommend non-adverse transfer due to safety concerns.
- Try to establish how the enemy concern wasn’t auto flagged in SOMS and preventative measures for the future.
- Also consider contacting other enemy to see if there is still a concern and document.
An inmate is released from Administrative Segregation for a Division A1 Offense.
What will his custody be, for how long and why?
Close Custody for 1 year, continued up to 2 years thereafter based solely upon the
degree of threat the inmate’s misconduct, as documented within the original Division
A1 or A2 Serious RVR, continues to present to the institution. To be retained at close
Custody, the inmate must be reviewed by a classification committee and the reasons
for retention at Close Custody must be clearly articulated within the classification
chrono. The inmate shall be removed from Close Custody at the third Annual Review
after Close Custody was assigned unless retention is otherwise required/justified by
the CCR.
You are a CC1 at the Minimum Support Facility. An inmate comes up to you and states
that they are thinking about escaping. What do you do?
- Immediately order the inmate to turn around and place him in hand restraints. Call
for additional staff and have the inmate escorted to a holding cell. - Contact my immediate supervisor, sergeant, lieutenant and facility captain and
advise them of the situation. - Request the inmate is re-housed inside of the secured perimeter pending an
investigation a classification hearing. - Generate a memorandum and quote what inmate stated to me about his thoughts
of escaping. - Take the inmate to Classification Committee.
- Document on a 128G the reason and purpose for the committee hearing, the
specific reasons for the action including the information upon which the decision
was based, the inmate’s input, and refer to the CSR for application of the ESC
determinant, endorsement of the Mandatory Minimum Score Factor and possible
transfer. - Inmate will be permanently excluded from the camp/MSF due to verbalization of
escape.
