Q

What is CDCR’s EEO zero Tolerance Policy

A

CDCR is required by law to provide a workplace free from discrimination, harassment, or retaliation. When an EEO concern is brought to CDCR’s attention, CDCR is required to take immediate and appropriate action to stop the offending conduct or practice. Violations of EEO laws can cost CDCR and employees millions of dollars in court-ordered compensatory and punitive damages, in addition to litigation costs.

CDCR’s EEO Zero Tolerance Policy applies to:
1. Conduct that occurs in any location operated by CDCR or is considered a workplace by CDCR
2. Any location that can reasonably be regarded as an extension of the workplace, such as an off-site business or social function.
3. Any other non CDCR facility where CDCR business is being conducted. This may include the home office, where the employee is engaged in telework
4. Conduct that occurs off duty and is brought back to the workplace when such conduct adversely affects the workplace in a manner otherwise prohibited by this policy
5. Any employee found to have engaged in discrimination, harassment, or retaliation will be subject to corrective action or disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from CDCR.

Q

Give an EEO speech for the job.

Give an explaination how your leadership style incorperates a fair, diversive, and inclusive work environment.

A

Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) is about ensuring that every individual, regardless of their background, has a fair and equitable chance to succeed. As a candidate for Correctional Counselor I, I recognize that everyone—staff and incarcerated individuals alike—brings unique strengths and perspectives to the table. A diverse workforce makes us stronger, enhances communication, and allows us to better serve the rehabilitation and safety goals of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

In my daily work, I incorporate EEO by treating everyone with professionalism, fairness, and respect. I actively promote an inclusive environment by ensuring that decisions regarding programming, classification, and case management are free from bias and based solely on objective criteria. This fosters an atmosphere where staff can perform at their best and where the incarcerated population receives equitable opportunities for rehabilitation and reintegration.

Additionally, I align my approach with the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) framework, which emphasizes proactive strategies to advance equity within institutional settings. By applying these principles, we move beyond basic compliance and work toward meaningful, long-term change that strengthens our department.

CDCR has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, harassment, and retaliation in the workplace. This policy ensures that all employees and individuals under CDCR’s supervision are protected from unfair treatment, creating a professional and safe environment for everyone. Upholding EEO principles is not just a legal obligation—it’s a commitment to integrity, fairness, and the mission of CDCR.

By embracing EEO in my everyday work, I contribute to a work culture where diversity is valued, equity is maintained, and inclusion is the standard. This approach ultimately helps build a more effective and just correctional system for all.
