Scenario 3 Flashcards
explain the administration of the curl-up test
- place 2 pieces of tape parallel to each other (10 cm apart)
- middle finger must slightly touch 1st tape piece
- have client assume position (hands palm down, knees at 90 deg)
- set metronome at 50 bpm
- have client begin slow, controlled movements (back must flatten before coming up again)
- perform as many consecutive (no pausing) curl-ups to a max of 25
- test ends when cadence is broken, severe discomfort/ pain, or poor technique
explain the administration of the push up test
- have client assume position - bent knee for women and standard for men
- begin test counting the total # of push-ups (consecutive - no resting) till exhaustion, client strains forcibly or unable to maintain technique for 2 reps
- scoring = total # of push-ups
What is the purpose of the curl up test?
to determine how many curl-ups can be done to a set cadence without time constraints
what is the purpose of the push-up test?
to determine how many push-ups can be completed to reflect muscular endurance
Review the proper position and procedure for the push-up test
position: standard or bent knee, hands shoulder width apart and back straight
procedure: 1 push up = chin touches the floor and then arms are fully extended, exhale on the way up
name 1 precaution for these tests
not appropriate for those with neck or lower back ailments
2 strengths and 2 weaknesses
strengths: easy to administer and affordable
weaknesses: there is no single test to measure total body muscular endurance, not good for those with low back or neck pain
3 reasons why these tests are useful
- baseline
- basis for creating individualized training program
- show clients progression
