Scenario 1 Flashcards
Explain the administration of the grip dynamometer
- adj dynamometer to 2nd joint of hand to ensure proper grip
- stand up straight, arm 90 deg, arm close to body
- gradually build up tension for 2-3 secs (do not contort body) - avoid valsalva maneuver
- allow 1-2 mins between trials
- switch hands - repeat 3x’s each hand
- scoring = R hand best + L hand best
Explain the administration of the push-up test
- have client assume position - bent knee for women and standard for men
- begin test counting the total # of push-ups (consecutive - no resting) till exhaustion, client strains forcibly or unable to maintain technique for 2 reps
- scoring = total # of pushups
What is the proper breathing during the the push up test
exhale when pushing up (on the way up)
when would you terminate the push-up test?
exhaustion, client strains forcibly, client is unable to maintain technique for 2 reps
What is the rationale (purpose) for the dynamometer test?
to determine how much gripping force is generated in each hand to reflect overall strength
What is the purpose of the push-up test
to determine how many push-ups can be completed to reflect muscular endurance
What are 3 reasons why these tests useful?
- asses ROM
- Identify weaknesses
- monitor rehab progress
- monitor training progress/ effectiveness
Name at least 1 precaution with these tests
low back pain
