- have client lie down with legs straight
- have client perform a pelvic tilt (low back flat against floor)
- one leg raised (by tester only) and the other remains flat on floor
- tester slowly raise the leg incrementally pausing to see if both legs stay straight
- the end point is right before the tested knee begins to bend and hamstrings are taunt
- pass or fail test
explain the administration of the sit and reach test

what is the purpose of the passive straight leg raise?
to test the flexibility of th hip complex (hamstrings, lower back, hip flexors) while maintaining pelvic tilt
What is the purpose of the sit and reach test?
to assess forward trunk flexion while seated on the floor and reaching forward as far as possible
what are 5 reasons why these tests are useful?
- baseline
- basis for designing individualized training programs
- show improvements over time
- provide feedback
- identify weaknesses
name two specific reasons why the passive straight leg raise is useful
- assess ROM
2. baseline
2 strengths and 2 weaknesses
strengths: cheap and easy to administer
weaknesses: not good for those with low back pain, not one test to determine total body flexibility
1 precaution
not good for those with low back or neck ailments
