SCBA Presentation Flashcards
What are the 5 Performance objectives?
1- Use and Safety 2- Components and Specifications 3- Daily inspections 4- Functional Test 5- Cleaning of SCBA
Use and Safety
1- Pressure demand SCBA for use in IDLH atmospheres.
2-Full Personal protective equipment must be worn.
3-If low pressure warning device sounds, exit the structure.
4-If trans fill operation takes place in an emergency, both parties exit the structure.
5-If bypass is used in an emergency, exit the structure.
Components and specificaitons
Cylinder and Valve Assembly
1-Aluminum cylinder wrapped in carbon fiber.
2-Maximum pressure 4500 psi
3-Refill cylinders below 4000 psi
4-Aproximatly 45 minutes of breathing air.
5-Analog gauge reads in 1000 psi increments.
6-Frangible disc is set at 7500 psi.
7-Cylinder is equipped with a quick connect.
8-Cylinder has a dove tail interlock used to secure the cylinder to a backplate.
9-Cylinder is hydrostatically tested every 5 years.
Components and specifications
Pressure reducer with low pressure warning device
1-Rings at 35% of cylinders maximum pressure capacity or 1575 psi
2-Approximately 16 minutes of breathing air remaining.
3-Pressure reducer lowers the cylinder pressure to an intermediate pressure which is further reduced by the regulator.
Components and specifications
Universal Air Connection (UAC)
1- G1 SCBA is equipped with a Universal Air Connection
2- UAC is a male fitting inlet for emergency filling of SCBA during transfill operations.
3-It is illuminated by a LED light located on the backplate.
Components and specifications
Regulator (also know as demand valve)
1-Pressure demand regulator which maintains positive pressure in the face piece.
2-Regulator reduces the pressure coming from the pressure reducer to provide breathable air to the user.
3-Hose to regulator provides an uninterrupted air connection with tinter grated wiring.
4-Regulator houses the HUD along with an internal microphone for the speaker module.
5-Red bypass knob con provide a constant flow of air to the mask.
6-Grey regulator buttons are used to stop airflow and disengage regulator from face piece.
Components and specifications Control Module (PASS Device)
1-Control module is the users interface with the SCBA and the PASS device.
2- The control module is connected to the high pressure hose and power module.
3-It is equipped with an analog gauge and graphical display to provide numeric cylinder pressure, battery status, and alarms.
4-The red alarm button sets pass device into full alarm at any time.
5-The green button backlights the graphical display and shuts off the control Module.
6-The Pass device enters pre alarm is motionless for 20 seconds.
7-the Pass device enters full alarm if motionless for additional 10 seconds.
8- The background color of the screen corresponds to the system pressure- RED= 0-35%, YELLOW=36-49%, GREEN= 50% or grater Pressure.
Components and specifications
Emergency Trasfill Hose
1- Three foot emergency trans fill hose located in black kevlar pouch on right hip.
2-Remove recue hose from pouch on belt of recover.
3-Remove dust caps from rescue hose and UAC.
4-Attach hose to donor cylinder first ( min of 2000 psi)
5-Listen for snap of couplings and tug on hose to ensure proper connection.
6-Allow pressure to equalize.
7-if low pressure warning device sounds during equalization discontinue the operation.
8-After transfix hose is used, release pressure in hose by depressing dust caps.
Components and specifications
Carrier and Harness assembly
1-Consists of backplate, power module, battery module , and a pressure reducer.
2-Cylinder band with latch.
3-Shoulder pads to provide weight distribution, friction pads to precent slippage, reflective markings for visibility.
4-Double waist pull straps with seat belt style buckle.
5-Carrier can accommodate a variety of air cylinders.
6-Adjustable lumbar pad with swivel that can be postponed by the user for comfortable fit.
7- Dovetail interlock receiver for air cylinder.
8- Regulator keeper mounted on belt.
Components and specifications
Power Module
1- Serves as the SCBA power supply and is connected to the backplate.
2- It sounds the PASS alarm through Piezo Emitters and is equipped with 4 Buddy lights.
3-It is equipped with a LED light which illuminates when low pressure warning device activates.
4-The power module houses the battery module which utilizes 6 C-cell batteries.
5-Battery module is removed by using buckle from the waist strap.
6-Batteries are replaced by using a Torx #10 driver and removing 8 Torx screws.
7-The system will notify the user when batteries need to be replaced by editing an audible tone, displaying an empty battery icon on the control module, and flashing a yellow LED in the HUD.
8- Only MSA approved batteries are to be used, approved batteries are printed on the plate of the battery module.
