SB2- Cells and Control Flashcards
What is cell differentiation
The process by which a cell changes to become specialised for it’s job. So that the organism can be more efficient
What is cancer
Uncontrolled cell division=tumour. If the tumour invades the surrounding tissue then it’s called cancer.
All due to a mutation to the gene
Explain how growth in animals occurs and changes throughout life
Cell division(mitosis) When young=rapid growth =lots of cell division
When old most cell division is for repair.
This also means that cell differentiation is lost at an early stage
What is mitosis( def not stages)
A form of cell division which happens during the cell cycle when the cell divides
What is asexual reproduction
When organisms use mitosis to reproduce e.g. plants could form runners that become new plants
What happens in interphase
DNA is spread out in long strings
Increase in subcellular organisms
Duplicates DNA (1 for each new cell)
DNA is copied and forms x chromo..
