Classical ballet reasons/links to E.I.
Very disciplined, controlled and refined movement.
Rigorous, arduous and constant practice needed.
The lines of dancer’s bodies form beautiful, harmonious designs.
Dancers perform movements that are unnatural to the body, but when well executed, look natural.
Training in technique develops the desired aesthetics and exists to prevent injury.
Pieces are strictly choreographed and learned. No improvisation at all.
Individual, partner and group performances.
Regarded as an elegant art form, harmonious in design and beautiful to watch.
Not everyone can succeed in ballet in its purest form. Only the gifted, willing to work hard can ever reach the top.
Much ballet technique is based on the turn-out.
Hip hop reasons/links to E.I.
Spontaneous movements, very improvisational.
Can be performed by anyone. No rigorous training required.
Originated on the streets and gave a means of expression to poverty stricken black and Latino youths of Brooklyn initially, and later, the world.
Very acrobatic, macho, and physically challenging.
Lots of leaps, turns and tumbles etc.
Many movements are quite dangerous.
Dance follows the beat of the music.
Jazz reasons/links to E.I.
Incorporates much of the training of ballet dancers so as to develop flexibility, muscular strength and control.
A popular form of dance- it is often seen in stage musicals and in support of pop singers.
It is less demanding on the dancer than ballet, but, like ballet, routines are well choreographed and well-rehearsed.
Like hip hop, jazz can include acrobatics and is closely related to the beat of the music.
