Mission Statement
The mission of the Special Assignment Unit is to provide specialized or tactical support to precincts and bureaus by responding to unplanned tactical events, executing high risk warrants, apprehending dangerous criminals, and assisting with incidents requiring specialized expertise and equipment
Positions and call signs
0 - Point 1 - Point Cover 2 - Diversionary Device/Gas 3 - ARWEN/Back-Up gas 4 - Breacher/Rear Guard 5 - Sniper 6 - Sniper 7 - Negotiator 8 - Utility 9 - Utility
Duties and Responsibilities
1) Provide timely response to tactical events for the Patrol Division.
2) The successful management of carious tactical situations including those involving hostage and/or barricaded suspects.
3) The apprehension of high violence potential or high profile criminals.
4) The successful management of incidents which require the expertise of the Special Assignment Unit:
- Fortified search warrant locations
- Buy busts
- Clandestine labs
- WMD incidents
- Dignitary, witness, or suspect protection
- Any incident involving the potential confrontation of an armed suspect
Unit Coverage (Squads)
Each squad will have a minimum of 8 officers and 1 sergeant assigned
S51 - 0900-1900, TFS S52 - 0900-1900, SMT S53- 1500-0100, SMT S54 - 0600-1400, SS S55 - 1500-0100, TFS
Minimum staffing
6 officers per squad
1 sergeant per day, who may supervise 2 squads;’ second sergeant must be able to respond
