SAT Flashcards
what does design criteria refer to?
design brief = purpose, TA, context, expectations and constraints and final presentation
what occurs in the discover stage?
Research - a diverse range of research needs to be collected that can consist of
site visit
interviews
surveys
photography
competitors analysis
materials research
observational drawing
brainstorming
what are some examples of divergent thinking?
Brainstorming – share with stakeholders or your peers for more input
Mind mapping
Empathy mapping
Interviews with stakeholders
Surveys.
what are some examples of primary research?
- Take your own photos
- Field trips and site visits –
. observational drawings - Complete a survey – open-ended as well
as closed questions - Interview people and take notes
- Observe people interacting with objects,
instructions or the environment
what is secondary research?
Secondary research is collecting, summarising and synthesising data that has already been organised and published
by other people, such as information from
the internet or printed materials.
what is stakeholder research?
interviews
* surveys
* audience or user personas
* competitor analysis
* secondary research.
what are some examples of convergent thinking?
Examples of way a designer can use convergent thinking during the design process

How is design criteria in the design brief used throughout the design process?
These design criteria are used to evaluate the success of design ideas.
Define the term stakeholders
Stakeholders are individuals, groups or organisations involved in a design project, that have an interest in the process or outcome.
Stakeholders include the project’s client and audiences or users, and may also include others such as specialist practitioners, suppliers, project teams and managers, sponsors, subcontractors and employees.
what are DESIGN IDEAS ?
They are found in the DEVELOP stage
Drawings and prototypes are experimental, imaginative and rapidly generated in an effort to capture the essence of emerging ideas.
Aim for a broad range of imaginative options, using combinations of the design elements and principles, while also keeping in mind the needs of audiences or users, and the findings from their earlier research.
What are Development Drawings?
Development drawings are used both in the Develop and Deliver stages o to visualise design ideas and concepts, and may incorporate abstract, symbolic or realistic representations.
They assist in devising, documenting and communicating concepts so that they can be analysed, tested and evaluated. Development drawings may be generated using rapid, informal and expressive drawing techniques, or presented as refined concepts for the purposes of testing or critique.
What is a wireframe?
A wireframe isa schematic, a blueprint, useful to help you and your programmers and designers think and communicate about the structure of the software or website you’re building
What is the purpose of a critique?
The critique is a process that allows you to gather constructive feedback about your design solutions, prior to going through the refinement process, resolution and presentation.
Having fresh eyes look over and critically evaluate, whether your design solution is meeting the needs of your client’s brief, can be very helpful. It can provide clarity and direction before converging to a final.
