Explain, with reference to what you have learnt, Sartre and de Beauvoir’s philosophy. Use at least one quotation. [4 marks]

Sartre and de Beauvoir were both existentialists who believed that individuals should run their own lives, independently and responsibly, building their own paths whilst rejecting societal norms. Sartre said: “life is an unscripted performance”, meaning that when we are born nothing is pre-determined or set in stone about our lives, instead we gain knowledge, develop as individuals and essentially create our own paths, as we go through our life.
