Q

Explain, with reference to what you have learnt, Nietzsche’s philosophy. Do you agree or disagree, why? [6 marks]

A

Nietzsche was both a nihilist and an and existentialist. He believed that religion causes “cultural decay” and that there was no meaning to it (this shows his side of being a nihilist). Cultural decay is the destruction of a society. Nietzsche thought that religion was a distraction from the will to power - becoming the best version of yourself (this shows his side of being an existentialist). Personally, I disagree with Nietzsche because I think that religion adds a lot of flavour to the world, and makes it less boring and one-sided. Another benefit is that it could help with one’s mental well-being. On the flip side, however, religion does cause a lot of wars which is terrible and also if you are so dedicated to your God, you might forget to do things for yourself once in a while.
