الْمَاضِى
The past tense
اَلزَّمَانُ
Time or tense
الْحَال
The present tense, Lit. The present state.
الْمُسْتْقْبَل
The future tense, Lit. The forthcoming.
الْفِعْلُ الْمَاضِى
The perfect: Past tense verb:
ضَرَبَ
He hit (in the past)
الْفِعْلُ الْمُضَارِع
The imperfect: The present and future tense verbs.
يَضْرِبُ
(He is hitting or will hit)
فِعْلُ الْأمْرِ
The imperative: the verb in which an order is given or understood.
إضْرِبْ
(You hit!)
فِعْلُ النَّهْى
The prohibitive: the verb in which a prohibition is given or understood.
لاتَضْرِبْ
(Don’t hit!)
الْمُثْبَتُ
A positive verb (denotes when something has happened or has been done).
قَرَأ (He read)
يَقْرَأُ(He is not reading or will not read)
الْمَنْفِى
The negative verb (when something hasn’t happened or hasn’t been done)
الْفِعْلُ المَعْلُوم
The active verb: the verb whose doer is mentioned.
نَصَرَ He helped
الْفِعْلُ الْمَجْهُولْ
The Passive verb: The verb whose doer is not mentioned.
نُصِرَ
He was helped
الْفِعْلُ الْلاَّزِمُ
The Intransitive verb: The verb that is confined to the doer/subject.
