Sarcomere Flashcards
What are three of the functions of Skeletal Muscle?
Force generation for breathing and movement Force generation for postural support Heat production during cold stress
Where is the M line on the Sarcomere?
The M line is directly in the middle which looks white in colour
What is the technical name for when heat is produced during cold stress?
Shivering Thermogenesis
What is the difference between Macrostructures and Microstructures?
Microstructures are inside the cell where as Macrostructures are outside of the cell.
What are the three different types of muscle in the body?
Cardiac Muscle Smooth Muscle Skeletal Muscle
What percentage of muscle is Glycogen?
1%
What percentage of muscle is fat (lipids)
1-10%
Where is the I band of the Sarcomere?
The I band is located on the white band on either side of the A band. It is not located in the middle.
What is Glycogen?
Glycogen is a multibranched polysaccharide of glucose that serves as a form of energy storage in animals, fungi, and bacteria. The polysaccharide structure represents the main storage form of glucose in the body
How much water is in muscle?
approximately 75%
Where is the A band in the sarcomere?
The area that is constituted with the thick filaments which gives the dark pigment of the sarcomere.
How many skeletal muscles are in the human body?
Over 600
Where is the Z line on the Sarcomere?
The Z line is on either side of the Sarcomere, in the form of a zig-zag line
Why is Titan in the sarcomere called Titan?
It is the largest protien in the human body, hence the name Titan meaning Giant.
Where is Titan located on the Sarcomere?
Titan is located Near the Z line, it’s the coil like structure
