Sarah Jean desRoches Flashcards
What is interculturalism ?
Interculturalism focuses on a shared public sphere while respecting cultural differences.
A core principle is francisation, encouraging newcomers to learn and use French. This emphasizes the French language’s significance in Quebec’s identity.
Immigrants are expected to adapt to Quebec’s social values and language, while the majority Quebecois community strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Emphasis on Common Ground: The aim is to foster a sense of belonging to a shared Quebec society while acknowledging cultural diversity
