SAP - Methods & Tactics - Supplies

A
  • Asking for Supplies
  • Be Specific Number Requested
  • Check Stock
  • Case vs Box
  • Nothing sold by the case
  • DO NOT - Ship Electronics w/o pelican or cushion box
  • DO NOT - Ship Calibration Gas (unless certified)
  • LEAVE - Calibration Gas with Client/Fire Dept/Contractor
  • IF CAN NOT LEAVE - Bleed Out and Turn to Porta Gas
  • LEAVE - Contaminate on Site
  • DO NOT - Ship Dirty Equipment (bad impression, replace stained tubing)
  • DO NOT - Use Duct, Painters, Masking or Gaft Tape
  • SHAKE OVER TRASH - Broken Glass of Gastec Tubes

SAP - Methods & Tactics - Readings/Project Log

A

* * Project Log - new activity that may affect a larger group that doesn’t need gps or photo - Document anything that effects Readings (Raining, Lighthing Strike, Dust Storm, Demobilization, etc.) Can add on any if something is drastically changing or work site.

    • Monitoring Focus
  • Downwind of Site or Full Coverage (Both)
  • FRT F- ixed Real Time
  • RL - Roaming Location
  • Both - FRT OR RL
  • Low Lying Areas
  • Record Readings at mininal every 15 minutes
  • Enter Readings with no Bias (detect or non-detect)
  • Note Wind Direction in Comments
  • 20.9% Always for Oxygen
  • Photos Only for Gastec (be can on other if changes)
  • DRIFT - Readings appear off - Get 2nd Reading
  • Secondary Instrumentation to Confirm (Positive/Inconsistant)
  • Enter info in such a way that some one who is not on site can understand - BUT KEEP IN MIND I
Think about how to it will look in litigation will handle what you send in! What can a lawyer do to it!

SIERA

A
  • Primary Identifier – Serial #
  • Incidence photo in relation w/machine
  • SIERA - used when a GPS & photo are necessary (fixed equipment set-up, deploying ARs)

Q

MultiRae - Multiple Gas Monitor

A

O2 - Oxygen = 20.9%
LEL - Lower Explosive Limits (%)
PID - PID measures VOC - Volatile Organic Compounds

Multiple Gas Monitor
Most commonly used “5-gas meter” - 5 sensors at one time
Sensors: Oxygen, LEL(%), PID (Photoionization Detector) (PID measures VOC - Volatile Organic Compounds) space for two more
Take sets of reading for RealTime EVERY time, unless told otherwise (LEL, O2, PID)
O2 always at 20.9% - never “non-detect” unless something is very wrong.
Quad gas to measure O2 and LEL
Iso gas to measure VOC

Q

AreaRae Plus - Multiple gas meter

A

LEL - Lower Explosive Limits
02 - Oxygen (most common use)
PID - Photoionization Detector - PID measures VOC
VOC - Volatile Organic Compounds

Multiple gas meter
Can use Up to 7 sensors at a time
Commonly used sensors: Oxygen, LEL, PID (VOC)
Can be set to collect data at intervals and sent directly to Host/computer
Uses telemetry to transmit data back to ProRAE Gardian on a PC
——Telemeting issues can be due to distance, weather, batteries, physical barriers, etc.
Use SIERA when deploying to include pictures and GPS of location/positioning

Q

UltraRae 3000 - Compound-specific monitor (Benzene & Butadiene)

A

Compound-specific monitor
Mostly used for Benzene, also Butadiene
Requires SEP (separation tubes) to scrub out unwanted VOCs
**SEP tubes are used to filter out all other VOCs except for the substance you want to test for, primarily benzene. **
Use benzene 5 PPM cal gas
Use a new benzene SEP tube to calibrate, then change to a fresh after calibration for testing. If you get a positive reading, get a fresh tube and test again to confirm.

Q

Gastec gv-100 - Gas sampling pump

A

Gas sampling pump
—– Identify presence of specific chemicals where other instrument may not be appropriate
Uses chemical specific colorimetric tubes
Thousands of compatible chemicals of interest
Include QC # (GC#?) and expiration date from tube box in additional comments
Include wide direction in additional comments
In instrument details include pump volume (volume of pulls x number of pulls)
**Only device that correction factor is applied and noted. **All other instruments are documented as-read
If you get a color change, document, replace tubes, and test again to confirm

Gastcs vs PID: Sometimes used instead of other equipment to narrow down which VOCs you’re detecting when other instruments may not be able to be specific. Also have a wide range of chemicals they can test for.
Measures for specific chemicals, and confirm readings from other machines

Gastec tubes – shake over trash to remove broken glass.

MDS - Mobile Data Studio

A
  • Dev. by CTEH
  • Record data collected on ER (RealTime, Project log, & SIERA)
  • Location assessment used to document readings not representative of a “breathing zone”

“Additional comments” in RealTime used when noting changes in site conditions relevant to detections - wind direction, lightening?
