Q

Define sampling distribution

A

The distribution of values taken by a statistic in all possible samples of the same size from the same population

  • Statistic includes min, max, mean, or some outcome (ex., proportion of people who knocked down 7 pins while bowling)

Q

What is the central limit theory?

A

The distribution of the sample means will be approximately Normally distributed if there are a lot of samples (N = 50 or more)

  • If the population falls under the central limit theorem, it can be right, left, or symmetrical skewed, but the distribution of sample means will always be Normal (symmetrical)

Q

Define Normal

A

Something that is Normal is completely specified by two numbers: its mean and standard deviation

  • 68-95-99.7 rule
  • Values must be continuous (not discrete)
