Binomials Flashcards
1
Q
Define random variable
A
- A numerical variable whose value depends on chance
- Ex., randomly selecting student height
2
Q
State the criteria of a binomial random variable
A
- Fixed number of observations/trials (n)
- Trials are independent
- Outcome of each trial can be classified into 2 categories (success of failure)
- The probability of success (p) and failure (q) is constant across trials

3
Q
What is a binomial distribution?
A
- This includes all possible values of a binomial random variable and their assigned probabilities

4
Q
State the formula for calculating mean and SD of a binomial
A
Mean μ = np
Standard deviation 𝜎 = √npq
- Variance = 𝜎2
5
Q
Explain what each gives you:
- dbinom
- pbinom
- qbinom
A
