Salvation Flashcards
What is sin?
Missing the mark, falling short of God’s standard (perfection). Romans 3:23, “…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…”
Original sin entered the world when Adam and Eve sinned. (Romans 5:12). Because of that we are all born with a sin nature it is in our genetics. Look at children; you do not have to teach them how to be bad but how to be good. (We do not become sinners because we sin we sin because we are sinners)
There are different forms of sin including:
Broken into two categories sins of omission and sins of commission.
Omission is not doing what we should do James 4:17
Commission is doing what we should not do 1 John 3:4
What is the Gospel?
The life, death, burial, and resurrrections of Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4, I passed on to you what , was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and He was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
How is someone born again?
Saved by grace through faith in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8-9)…trusting Jesus as the leader and forgiver of your life (Lord and Savior)
1 Peter 1:3, Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead
How can a person know that they are saved?
By the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:9, You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.)
And the fruit (Galt. 5) He produces in you. John 15:8, “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”
Can a person lose their salvations? Why or why not?
Once saved, if truly saved, always saved.
John 10:28, Jesus says, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
You are also sealed by the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:14, “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.”
What is the blasphemy of the spirit?
Jesus mentions that in Matthew 12. He’s just healed a blind and mute man possessed by demons. The Pharisees accused Jesus of casting him out by Satan’s power.
This is more than just saying something bad about the Holy Spirit. This is, just like the Pharisees, a continued rejection of the gospel and of who Jesus is. (John 3:18, “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”)
Two kinds of sin:
Broken into two categories sins of omission and sins of commission.
Omission is not doing what we should do James 4:17
Commission is doing what we should not do 1 John 3:4
1 John 3:4
Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.
