Name 5 Metals;
Lithium
Beryllium
Silver
Copper
Aluminium
Sodium + Oxygen
Sodium Oxide
Aluminium + Oxygen
Aluminium Oxide
Magnesium + Oxygen
Magnesium Oxide
Zinc + Oxygen
Zinc Oxide
Iron + Oxygen
Iron Oxide
Why is sodium stored under oil?
The sodium is stored under oil so that the sodium doesn’t react to O2/H2O.
Observations; Sodium
It was shiny but become tarnished.
Observations; Magnesium
A bright white light is created and then the white powder is shown.
Observations; Aluminium
It is a shiny grey colour. It melts in the bunsen burner flame. Isn’t shing after burnt and becomes tarnished.
Observations; Zinc
Shiny grey but when melted it isn’t shiny but, only tarnished.
Observations; Iron
The nail is grown red hot by reacting iron to oxygen.
Why does iron powder react faster?
The powder has a large surface area.
Arrange these metals from highest to lowest reactive metals.
Sodium
Magnesium
Aluminium
Zinc
Iron
