Salt Preparation - Lesson 5 Flashcards
What is the equation when making salt using the titration method?
Acid + Alkali —> Salt + Water
Hydrochloric Acid + Sodium Hydroxide —>
Sodium Chloride + Water
Sulfuric Acid + Potassium Hydroxide —>
Potassium Sulfate + Water
Nitrate Acid + Calcium Hydroxide —>
Calcium Nitrate + Water
When doing the titration method what is the first step?
Measure the alkali using a pipette.
When doing the titration method what is the second step?
Add acid base indicator. Eg; Phenolphthalein
Pink - Alkali
Colourless - Neutral
When doing the titration method what is the third step?
Fill the burette with acid.
When doing the titration method what is the fourth step?
Add the alkali to the conical flask till their is a colour change ( pink - colourless).
When doing the titration method what is the fifth step?
Note down the volume of acid used.
When doing the titration method what is the sixth step?
Repeat the experiment without the indicator
When doing the titration method what is the seventh step?
Use crystallization method to get salt crystals.
