What is salsa?
An energetic lively Latin American dance from Cuba.
What does a typical salsa band consist of?
piano, bass, congas, timbales, a horn section of trumpets and perhaps saxaphones, smaller handheld percussion instruments including claves, maracas, guiros and cowbells, a principle singer (sonero), and backing singers (choro) who sing in Spanish.
What rhythm is the music based on?
son clave rhythm
almost always in 4/4 time
verses:
a main tune that is repeatedly brought where lyrics are heard by the sonero (soloist singer)
