Salmonella and Gonorrhea Flashcards
Bacterial diseases
Salmonella food poisoning and gonorrhea are communicable diseases
Bacteria can be killed using antibiotics
Salmonella food poisoning
The bacteria that cause salmonella food poisoning are spread by ingesting infected food
This is the kind of food that is prepared in unhygienic condition
The bacteria excrete harmful chemical called toxins, these cause the symptoms of salmonella
The symptoms include fever, abdominal cramps, vomiting’s and diarrhoea
Salmonella bacteria are sometimes found in poultry such as chicken
In the UK all chicken are vaccinated against salmonella, this controls the spread of the disease
Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD)
Symptoms include thick yellow / green discharge from genitals
Gonorrhoea causes pain when urinating
Gonorrhoea was easily treated using antibiotic penicillin, antibiotic strains of bacteria are now common so different antibiotics are used to treat gonorrhoea
Stopping the spread of gonorrhoea
Usina a condom stops the bacteria from spreading from person to person
People who have unprotected sex should be tested for gonorrhoea
They can be treated with antibiotics which kill the bacteria before they spread it to another person
