Malaria Flashcards
Malaria
Malaria is a communicable disease spread by pathogen
The Malaria pathogen is an example of a protist
People with Malaria experience repeated bouts of fever and can be fatal
How does Malaria work
First the person is bitten by a mosquito, the malaria pathogen passes into the mosquito
Theo mosquito now bites a different person and passes the malaria pathogen to them
Scientists call the mosquito a vector because it carries the pathogen from one person to another person
Stopping the spread of Malaria
. Stopping the vector (mosquito) from breeding, mosquitos’ breed in still water, to stop mosquito’s from breeding, we need to find areas of still water and drain them
. We can also spray areas of still water with insecticide which kills mosquitos
. We can also prevent mosquitos from biting humans eg
sleeping under a mosquito net
If we spray the net with insecticide, any mosquito’s that land on the net die
