What major gland does a Pleomorphic Adenoma usually arise in?
Parotid gland
How do patient’s with a Pleomorphic Adenoma present?
With mobile, painless, circumscribed mass at the angle of the jaw.
Why is there a high rate of recurrence of Pleomorphic Adenoma?
***IRREGULAR MARGINS!!!
-Extensions of small islands of tumor through tumor capsule often results in incomplete resection.
Can a Pleomorphic Adenoma turn into Carcinoma? How would it present?
Rarely transforms into carcinoma.
Presents with signs of facial nerve damage.
What is a Warthin Tumor?
Benign cystic tumor with abundant lymphocytes and germinal centers
TAKE HOME: “Cystic tumor with lymphoid tissue”
What is the second most common tumor of the salivary gland?
Warthin Tumor
What major gland does a Warthin Tumor arise in?
Almost always arises in the parotid gland.
