- most commonly parotid gland (parotitis)
common cause of acute sialadenitis
infection:
viral (most common) - mumps, coxackie
bacterial - staph aureus, TB
most common causes of chronic sialadenitis
secondary to stones
autoimmune: sjogrens syndrome, sarcoidosis
presentation of sialadenitis caused by infection
bilateral acute pain, swelling, mild fever
presentation of sialadenitis caused by sjogrens syndrome
bilateral non-tender gland enlargement
dry eyes + mouth (keratoconjunctivitis sicca + xerostomia)
