-Sublingual (mucous)
Pathology of salivary gland tumours
-80% parotid- pleomorphic adenomas in superficial lobe
-Malignant rare: short history, painful, hot skin, hard, fixation, CN 7 involvement
Describe pleomorphic adenomas
-Benign, mixed parotid tumour
-Middle age
-Slow growing, painless lump
-Superficial parotidectomy, risk CN7 damage
Describe Warthin’s tumour
-Benign, adenolymphomas
-Males middle aged
-Softer more mobile and fluctuant
Describe salivary gland stones
-Recurrent unilateral pain & swelling on eating
-May become infected → Ludwig’s angina
-80% are submandibular
-Plain x-rays; sialography
-Surgical removal
Other causes of salivary gland enlargement

-Acute bacterial infection e.g. 2nd to dehydration diabetes
-Sicca syndrome and Sjogren’s (e.g. RA)
