Explain when you would use salbutamol
Passenger suffering from an asthma attack or emphysema

What are the two types of salbutamol administration
Salbutamol inhaler with or without spacer
Salbutamol via nebuliser
Under what conditions are you authorise to administer this
There is no medical Practitioner to give instruction
Passenger who does not have the medication with him
This drug is the passengers usual/prescribed meds/Use before
Explain where the salbutamol is located
Green pouch of the physicians kit
Explain and demonstrate the use of the Salbutamol inhaler
No spacer
Remove mouthpiece cover from inhaler
Place mouthpiece in mouth and push down on canister while taking a breath
With spacer
Attach inhaler to end of spacer
Push down on canister to dispense one puff into the spacer
Direct patient to take six breaths using the mouthpiece
No more than three doses over an hour, 20 minutes apart

Explain and demonstrate the use of the salbutamol nebuliser
Attach nebuliser mask to the oxygen bottle
Unscrew the nebuliser mask chamber
Break off plastic ampule:1 (12yrs under), 2(12yrs over)
Squeeze liquid into chamber
Screw mask back onto chamber
Turn oxygen onto high flow
Mist will appear – dosage complete When no mist occurs
No more than three doses over an hour, 20 minutes apart
What should be considered when Administering nebulisers
Some passages may find the mask suffocating
Hold mask slightly away – insure missed is inhaled
Once administered what actions need to occur
Update Med link/ Dr
Record time of the administration on medical report form
Monitor closely
Explain disposal of used equipment and follow-up actions
Place used equipment into a biohazard bag
