Jummah prayers
Congregational prayers on Friday. “When the call to prayer is made on the day of congregation, hurry towards the reminder of God”
Du’ ah prayer
Spontaneous prayer to spend time in presence of God. Prayer for oneself, family or those in need. “‘call on me and I will answer you’”
Salat
Mandatory prayers for all Muslims 5 times a day.
What are salat prayers important (3)
- one of the 5 pillars of Islam
- give thanks for God’s blessings
- submitting to God’s will
What must Muslims do before they pray
Be in the right frame of mind and make a declaration of internet (niyyah)
“When you are about to pray, wash your faces and your hands”
Rak’ ats
A sequence of movements during prayer. Different prayers require a different number of rak’ats.
What movements are involved in Rak’ ats (5)
- Standing
- bow low with hands on knees
- prostrate on floor
- kneel with feet under body
- stand reciting ‘peace be upon you’ once to the left and right

How is the adhan raised
The muezzin (person) calls Muslims to prayer from the minaret (tower that most mosques have)
